OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA USA KMD provided complete design services, master planning, construction documents and construction administration for the Oakland Federal Building. It is the largest office building ever built in the East Bay and won a presidential design award from President Clinton. This project is one of the most prominently recognized buildings in the Bay Area, serving as a symbol for the federal government and the City of Oakland. The building design won the Department of Energy’s Energy Conservation Award. Although the design process was begun in 1986 in advance of many of today’s common energy conservation products and techniques, the designers continued to change the design as new products, equipment, and methods became available.
Winner of multiple awards.
