KMD has planned and designed several new, and now iconic, birth centers that introduced timely innovations within this rapidly maturing healthcare service. While perhaps most well-known for its work with major academic medical centers such as Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the Duke University Medical Center, KMD’s designs for birthing centers in Salt Lake City, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Gastonia, N.C., have been considered prototypes others have emulated at key evolutionary stages in hospital planning and architecture.
