Aristo Health IBHTF/Transitional Housing

Planning, Programming, Design Development, Construction Administration | Adaptive Reuse | 7,000 SF | 16 beds | Voluntary Adult Psychiatric Treatment | Completed 2023

RENTON, WASHINGTON, USA  kmd services for this project included such tasks as Feasibility Study, Planning, Design, permitting including a Conditional Use Permit, and Construction Administration. The project’s first phase consisted of converting an office building’s 7000 SF first floor into a 16-bed Intensive Behavioral Health Residential Treatment Facility (IBHTF). IBHTFs are a type of residential treatment facility (RTF) that serve people who no longer benefit from treatment at state hospitals, but who are still voluntarily seeking further treatment and support to fully integrate back into their community. Our design approach required a delicate balance of functionality and aesthetics while repurposing an office building into a behavioral health facility. The goal of Aristo Healthcare and kmd was to transform the space into a safe and secure facility while avoiding the cold and institutional look typically associated with such institutions.

A future IBHTF on the second floor will house 16 additional residents up to two years as they transition back into the community. Plumbing infrastructure for a future 16-bed facility on the second floor was installed as part of this project to minimize the impact of future construction work on the first floor operations.
